European Wasps
Wasps belong to the same family as honeybees but are considered more dangerous pests because of their innate brashness. The European wasp — Vespula germanica — used to be a native of Asia, North Africa, and Europe. However, after the Second World War and the increase in international traffic and trade, it’s population was introduced and spread to Australia, New Zealand, South America and South Africa. Now, European wasps occupy a number of cities in Australia including Melbourne, Adelaide, Victoria and New South Wales. It’s a good thing though that they have not managed to reach the inner country areas.
These wasps live in colonies, within tree trunks, hedges, sheds, roof cavities and holes from which they can hide, nest and store their food.

Wasps are not destructive per se because their diet usually just includes flies, caterpillars, grubs, honeydew and other protein and carbohydrate rich fares. However, they do have this bad habit of stinging anyone, which makes them dangerous to be around with. A bee can sting its victim only once and dies. Wasps can inflict harm repeatedly.
